About Dr. Nelson

Troy M. Nelson, DO, PharmD, MPH, FACP has been practicing medicine for over two decades. His experience in osteopathic medicine, combined with an extensive pharmaceutical background, offers specialized skills at CrossRoads Family Medicine in Campbellsville, Kentucky.

Dr. Nelson received a doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy in Lexington, Kentucky, where he graduated cum laude. He spent the next few years working as a pharmacy intern and eventually a licensed pharmacist. In 2001, he went on to earn a degree in osteopathic medicine from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. During his internal medicine residency at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center, he was honored with a first-place Resident Research Award. He also holds a Master of Public Health degree, with a focus on health services management.

In addition to his work as a pharmacist, Dr. Nelson has an extensive background in licensed physician work in a multitude of settings. From hospitals to wellness centers, nursing homes, and medical clinics, he’s practiced in many capacities. Beginning in 2009, he spent several years as medical director of Medco Nursing Home, and, in 2012, he served as chief of medicine at Lourdes Hospital.

Dr. Nelson maintains a very active presence in the medical community. In addition to his work at CrossRoads Family Medicine, he’s been a licensed physician at the Comprehensive Diabetes Treatment Center & Internal Medicine for the past 12 years. He’s a member of the American Osteopathic Association, Atlas Club, Sigma Sigma Phi honorary service fraternity, American College of Physicians, American Medical Association, American Diabetes Association®, National Lipid Association, and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. His antibiotics research has been published in the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association.

When not caring for his patients, Dr. Nelson spends his time giving medical presentations around the country. He is a regular panelist and occasional host for the Prescriber’s Letter national monthly webinars.
